DESCRIPTION

OSF’s Director of Finance is responsible for strategic financial leadership of the organization, including strategic thought leadership of the annual budget process, cash flow analysis and financial forecasts, and establishing and overseeing internal financial policies and procedures. The Director of Finance reports to the Executive Director and manages accounts receivable and payable functions, general ledger, payroll and financial systems. The position is also responsible for maintaining relationships with key financial institutions, including maintaining treasury management and working with the Executive Director to strategically develop debt strategies that ensure OSF’s long term success. The Director of Finance, working with the Executive Director, liaisons with the OSF Board of Directors and Endowment Trustees.

In addition, the Director of Finance collaborates across the organization, including with the artistic departments, in providing analysis and estimates.

Essential Functions include (but are not limited to):
· Work with the Executive Director in collaboration with the Artistic Director to develop and execute the financial strategy of the Festival

  • Oversee monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting (including cash flows) used by the staff and board, and act as the strategic financial leader developing reporting for regular decision making at the staff and board level.
  • Manage financial controls and accounting procedures in order to promote operational efficiency and prevent waste4.Working with the Executive Director, ensure transparency over the financial performance of the company
  • Serve as a member of the senior staff, assisting in long range and strategic planning initiatives, participates in decisions to align resources with institutional goals and values, leads (with Executive Director) long range budget planning and development.6.A thought leader and staff liaison to the Finance Committee, Audit Committee, and OSF’s Endowment Trustees. Attend meetings of the Board of Directors and Endowment Trustees and make written and oral presentations regarding budget, financial operations, audit and investments as required.
  • Maintain speed and accuracy of accounts payable and receivable functions
  • Coordinate and produce all tax documentation as required, including IRS 990 documentation
  • Oversee annual audits and periodic reviews of benefits
  • Collaborate with the Human Resources function for the administration and funding of self-insured medical/dental/vision plan, life and long term disability insurance and workers compensation insurance; monitor claim experience and adjusters’ investigations; analyze and report expenses for all plans; and ensures compliance with DOL and IRS.

Key Competencies Desired:
· Represents OSF in various business matters; may officially commit OSF financially or legally in matters delegated by the Executive Director.

  • Ensures all audit obligations are met on a timely basis with the support of Accounting Manager
  • Interviews and commends independent auditors to Executive Director and Board of Directors
  • Leads special projects as assigned by the Executive Director

Requirement:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of strategic financial management and of nonprofit finance including budgeting and accounting, business law, treasury management, insurance, investments, retirement, health and employee benefit plans, and payroll and personnel administration. Strong fiscal and managerial background. Outstanding interpersonal and communications skills –characterized by the ability to listen, to speak, and to write well. Logical, analytical, accurate and detailed oriented while at the same time able to demonstrate complex strategic perspectives. Demonstrated success with management of complex projects, negotiating contracts and understanding complex legal issues.

The following qualifications are required:
A college degree in accounting or business finance; or equivalent experience
Five years of experience as a Director of Finance or equivalent with a budget of at least $10 million

  • Ten years of increasingly responsible and successful experience in nonprofit finance

The following qualifications are desired:
An MBA or CPA a plus-Performing Arts and/or Non-profit finance experience
Experience with Ultimate Software and Blackbaud for Finance Management a plus Strong knowledge of Microsoft software, especially Excel, required
