Production Description

the OBSIDIAN THEATRE FESTIVAL is seeking Black composers, directors, lyricists, producers and playwrights for its upcoming theatre festival February 2021.

Due Date
November 17, 2020 (applications accepted on a rolling basis)

Submission Details
Playwrights: Qualified submissions range from 10-60 minutes in approximate length.

Producers and producing organizations: Organizations may apply to produce a segment of the festival.

Directors: BIPOC directors with experience in theatre, musical theatre, and/or multimedia.

Lyricists and Composers: Seeking musical theatre, pop, jazz, and soul compositions by Black artists to be featured cabaret style.

It is the mission of the Obsidian Theatre Festival to feature the work of exciting Black voices, and illuminate the rich diversity of experiences relevant to the African diaspora in America.

Our purpose is to entertain, educate and provoke the thoughtful consideration of a broad theatrical audience, while normalizing the panoply of Black American culture.

Rehearsal and Production Locations

Filming in Detroit

If a Production Organization is selected, filming may occur in other locations

Compensation & Union Contract Details

Selected playwrights/lyricists/composers will be paid a royalty stipend.
Paid contracts available for directors.
