Dramaturg for SAG-AFTRA Production of “Testament”

Via Brooklyn Theatre Co. is seeking a Dramaturg to begin work immediately on their upcoming production of “Testament”, written by Tristan Bernays and directed by Lucy Jane Atkinson, that will be filmed under a SAG-AFTRA contract in early October for release on Vimeo on Demand later this year. All Covid-19 regulations will be strictly in place as per SAG-AFTRA and NY State Government Regulations, although we anticipate this position working entirely remotely.

A sacrificial son. Sisters with a shocking secret. A man on Death Row. “Testament” invites you to bear witness to the dark underbelly of The Good Book. Set in modern day America, “Testament” explores the compelling re-imagining of four oft-forgotten Bible characters against a haunting score of gospel and blues as we behold how their lives have unfolded in today’s society.
-Create research packets for actors with background on the three Biblical stories explored in the play to be delivered at the first read through at the latest
-Serve as a liaison between the actors and playwright for any final textual edits
-Assist the director with any textual questions that come up in rehearsal. This will be done on an email basis.
-Attend the first read through over Zoom. However, attending the first read through in person, which will be conducted outside with proper social distancing and PPE measurements in place, is also an option, if desired.
-Attend necessary production meetings over Zoom
-Be available by email for questions from the director, playwright, and actors, and provide punctual replies
-BA or BFA in Theatre, English, or Film Studies. (Extra consideration will be given to degrees specifically in Dramaturgy.)
-Relevant Dramaturgical Experience
-Excellent writing and communication skills
-Able to meet all deadlines punctually
-A true team player and ensemble member
-Based in New York City, or, nearby with access to your own car
$500 flat fee under a 1099 for an estimated 20-25 total hours of work.
