Untitled Brontë Family Rock Band Play

Black Pool
New York, NY

Job Details

Development of a full-length, one-act musical play exploring feminism, mental health, grief, and legacy, featuring the Brontë siblings as a family band.

To the email address linked below, please submit:
– headshot/resume
– a video of a LIVE performance
– your expected availability for September/October (it might be impossible to know right now, but we appreciate the honesty)
– AV equipment you own or have easy access to
– any relevant experience (playing in a band, singing with siblings, picking up a new instrument in a week, etc.)
– what’s your “money note,” as a singer

“Callbacks” will be conducted virtually in August.

This will not require a heavy time commitment, but you will be compensated for your time. We are likely to record video demos in the autumn, with an eye toward a socially-safe, in-person workshop in 2021.

PLEASE NOTE that for ALL roles the most important factor is **STRONG MUSICIANSHIP**. Callbacks will require sight-singing, singing harmonies, and playing your instrument while singing.

BRANWELL, cisgender male, 25-35 in appearance, any ethnicity. Pop/rock baritenor, A2-G4, falsetto to C5 (reference: T.O.P [Choi Seung-hyun], Harry Styles). Must play guitar; please note if you also play any other instruments (drums/percussion desirable). A painter and poet — and the first of the siblings to be published — Bran is strong-willed and self-loathing, propelled by an undercurrent of desperation. In adulthood, he succumbs to the worst of himself.

EMILY, female or non-binary, 25-35 in appearance, any ethnicity. Strong, rich contralto with belt, blues/jazz sensibility, E3 with belt to C5 (reference: Amy Winehouse, Nina Simone, Annie Lennox). Must play bass, cello, and/or violin; please note if you also play any other instruments. Strong, stubborn, brusque, internal, passionate, brilliant, more into animals than people. It’s been speculated that the historical Emily was on the autism spectrum; we encourage performers who identify as autistic and/or neurodivergent to submit. Person of color preferred.
