Parody in Blue
New York, NY 10032

Jennifer Ambler

Job Details

Seeking submissions from BIPOC female-identifying or non-binary performers for online show to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, women gettting the right to vote. While this amendment was a huge leap forward for women, the history of the fight for womens right to vote and its implementation had very different meanings for white women and women of color, and since this show entirely consists of the voices of the performers, it is vital to have as many viewpoints as possible represented.

Any type of performance is welcome, as long as it can be related to the theme of women’s rights and/or voting. Parody a song, write an original song, sing your own version of an already written song, do a sketch, monologue, stand-up set, anything you can film yourself doing.  Heavily seeking comedy, but will also be selecting a few more serious options.

About the show:
Show will premiere on YouTube on Aug 16th at 7pm, you will need to be available at that time for live interaction, but everything else is on your own schedule. Since this can’t be the originally envisioned live show, you will need to film your performance in advance and get it to me by a due date in early August.  If you are a singer and wish to participate in a group number there will also be filming needs for that.  Doesn’t have to be anything super fancy, just film as you would for a self-tape.  Please don’t let technological fears prevent you from submitting!

Performers will be paid the greater of $30 or 1/2 of their gross ticket sales – suggested donation will be $10.

To Submit:
1. Email me a headshot/resume
2. Write in the body of your email your idea for what you would do in the show. Please be as detailed and specific as possible! It just needs to be able to be done in 10 min or less. That’s enough time usually for two songs, or 1 song and something else, etc.
3. A link to a video of you doing what you do – if you are a singer, then a link to you singing with accompaniment, if an actor then a scene or monologue, if a comedian then a set you did, etc etc.  It does NOT have to be what you would actually do in the show.
4.  Not necessary but hugely beneficial, send me a sample of your previous creative work in this vein, a sample of your writing. Performing talent is great, but creativity is also vital to this project!

Submit ASAP, callbacks will be a chat over Zoom pretty much as soon as we can schedule it.
