Focusing on Poe’s stories and poetry, supplemented by text taken from his letters, the play explores the intimate connection between Edgar Allan Poe’s work and the tragic events of his life. POE. Male. 40s. As the threads of his life and his writing intertwine, Poe confronts the phantasms of his past – the women he loved and who died too young, his cruel stepfather, the critics who sneered at his talent, and the personal demons that drove him to write his masterpieces of mystery and imagination. Deeply troubled and brilliant. Seeking an expressive actor with a strong command of language and keen storytelling.

Cross-gender and color conscious casting: Orlando Shakes encourages cross-gender and color conscious casting. Actors of all ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to attend our auditions.
