MARY – African American, light-skinned/passes for White; early 20s-30; the younger twin sister; charming and ladylike, determined, calculating. / Powerhouse singer with an extremely wide and flexible range covering a variety of styles including pop, jazz, and gospel. F3-G5. ROLE IS CAST

MARTHA –African American, light-skinned/passes for White; early 20s-30; the older twin sister; tomboyish, altruistic, perceptive. / Heroic belter with an R&B and gospel sensibility; seeking a vocalist with a hard edge but also a soft sweetness. Eb3-F5. ROLE IS CAST

TALLULAH – African American; mid-late 40s-50s; Mary and Martha’s mother; formerly enslaved; wise, formidable / Seeking a commanding vocalist with wide range and a soulful, earthy, expansive tone. G3-F#5. ROLE IS CAST

ELIJAH – African American; mid-late 20s-mid 30s; Jesse’s hired man; tender, sincere, loyal and upstanding / Soulful, rich baritone with strong high notes. Bb2-Ab4. ROLE IS CAST
