Sheboygan Theatre Company Guest Directors for 2020-2021 Season

Sheboygan Theatre Company
Sheboygan, WI 53081

Jackie Erdman

Job Details

The Sheboygan Theatre Company, one of the Midwest’s oldest and largest community theatres, is seeking directors, music directors, and director/choreographers for its 87th season (2020-2021).  STC is almost entirely volunteer-based but brings in professional directors from all over the country to helm our productions.  Rehearsal periods average around six to seven weeks, Monday through Friday evenings. Directors are given access to free or extremely low-cost housing with one of our participants or in a local hotel.  Transportation to and from Wisconsin is not included, though local transportation from Milwaukee or Chicago on arrival/departure and reasonable travel within Sheboygan (to and from rehearsal, groceries, errands, etc.) can be arranged if the director doesn’t drive; a car is advisable if possible, however.   Sheboygan is a beautiful community of 50,000, located on Lake Michigan about an hour north of Milwaukee. Due to the limited rehearsal hours, this is a great gig to enjoy some downtime in a beautiful area and get a head start on other projects.

Pay is restricted to within the pay range posted and is paid in a stipend halfway through and at the end of the process.  Negotiation within the pay range is possible. Please do not submit if you are not amenable to the pay range posted. Audition and first rehearsal dates are flexible, within reason, and the director is under no obligation to stay past opening night.  Directors should be comfortable working with actors and staff of all experience levels and should have the capacity to be patient with actors and staff who balance their theatre commitment with full-time jobs and family.  Music Directors have the option of playing/conducting the show for a stipend on the higher end of the pay range or leaving after opening night. Music Directors should also be comfortable working with actors of all experience levels and leading an orchestra made up of local professionals and talented students.

Artists are asked to submit a resumé and a brief cover letter to no later than February 28, 2020;  please indicate the show(s) for which you are submitting.  If selected for an interview, applicants will be contacted by March 13, 2020.  Interviews will be conducted by phone on March 21. We would prefer a Director/Choreographer for the musicals.  All positions require a criminal background check.

STC’s Mainstage uses the Leslie W. Johnson Theatre in Horace Mann Middle School; the space was built in the early 1970’s with STC in mind.  The LWJ is an 870-seat stadium-style space with a 58-foot proscenium and a circular thrust with functional elevators downstage (38 feet at its widest upstage).
