Music Director for 7th Grade Concert Reading- Smokey Joe’s Cafe

Waterwell, an award-winning Off-Broadway company entering its 18th year, seeks Music Director to join the Waterwell Drama Program at the Professional Performing Arts School (328 West 48th Street) on their upcoming middle school concert reading of Smokey Joe’s Cafe.
This year’s 7th grade project will be a concert reading of Smokey Joe’s Cafe by Leiber and Stoller. The production will take place in March, 2020.
*Cast, direct, and music direct the staged reading of Smokey Joe’s Cafe.
*In collaboration with the producer, hire on band members for the performances as well as serve as band leader.
*Collaborate with Waterwell producers and Manhattan Youth After-School staff regarding student and production needs
*Must be available for Mon/Weds/Thurs 3:30-5:45p weekly rehearsals, with the exceptions of holiday breaks and extended tech week.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will possess the following skills and qualifications:
*Experienced with music direction
*Experience working with young people, ideally in a theatrical setting
*Strong piano playing skills
*Experience conducting/leading a small band
*High energy, positive attitude, assertiveness, creativity, humor and patience
