NOTE: Muriel Heslop is back! The iconic Australian film is now an equally iconic laugh-out-loud musical. Stuck in a dead-end life in Porpoise Spit, Muriel dreams of the perfect wedding—the white dress, the church, the attention. Unfortunately, there’s one thing missing. A groom. Following her dreams to Sydney, Muriel ends up with everything she ever wanted—a man, a fortune and a million Twitter followers. That’s when things start to go really wrong. The film’s original writer-director PJ Hogan has updated his screenplay into a dazzling new stage show, bringing the story into the present but keeping all the irreverence and naughtiness of the film along with its dark edge.
NOTE: We strongly encourage actors of all cultural backgrounds to attend.
[MURIEL] Female, 20. Extremely strong all-around musical theatre performer able to convey a wide range of emotions and hold the entire show. Characterful physique. Needs a beautiful pop mix and belt with stamina. PRINCIPAL—LEAD
[RHONDA EPINSTALL] Female, 20. Muriel’s best friend. Feisty and energetic personality. Pop belt and mix with versatility. PRINCIPAL—FEATURED
[BETTY HESLOP] Female, 40—50. Muriel’s mother. Soft and frail with a nervousness about her and able to capture the audience’s support with very few spoken lines. Not necessarily a trained singer, but good intonation is essential. PRINCIPAL—FEATURED
[BILL HESLOP] Male, 40—50. Muriel’s father. Self-congratulatory, egomaniacal bully with rough-and- ready charm and showmanship. High baritone. PRINCIPAL—FEATURED
