female identifying, 40s-50s, black, Vet’s Wife, Buddy’s Stepmother
An ever-present ray of light, Grace represents all that is pure and good. She is kind, nurturing, inquisitive, thoughtful, and always chooses to seek out the positive outcome in every situation. Cares deeply about her work as a waitress, and is far more intelligent and aware than Vet gives her credit for. Sees and acknowledges many red flags in her abusive relationship with Vet, and ultimately suffers devastating consequences at his hand. Seeking an actress of great emotional depth, humor, and openness.
male identifying, 25ish, black/mixed, Vet’s Son, Grace’s Stepson
The black sheep of Vet’s world, Buddy represents his past, along with all it’s unspoken and unspeakable volatility. A troubled and complex young man, Buddy comes home from the army after having been estranged from Vet for many years. He is lost, devoid of a plan or direction, and desperately longs for genuine connection. He is rebellious, prone to anger, and holds a grudge easily. In many ways, he is still a boy, trapped in a body and circumstances that extend beyond his comprehension.
male identifying, 40s-50s, black, Buddy’s Father and Grace’s Husband
A force of nature, a commanding and unmistakable presence, Vet is a US Border Patrol agent, and a man of great discipline and pride. Loves his country deeply, and weaponizes that love against anyone who stands in his way. He is prone to violent mood swings, and is constantly suspicious of Grace and Buddy. He exudes a natural charisma and charm, and will occasionally use humor to disarm rising tension. His darkness, however, pervades all other forces, allowing brutality to drive him to horrific ends.
