BREAKDOWN

[KENDRA ELLIS-CONNOR]
Female, 40s to Early 50s, African-American. A professor of psychology and the mother of a teenage son. Recently separated from her White husband. Emotionally raw but trying to keep it together behind a professional façade. Exceptionally intelligent and self-possessed.

[SCOTT CONNOR]
Male, Late 40s to 50s, white. Kendra’s estranged husband. An FBI agent of predominantly Irish ancestry. Takes pride in his family’s long tradition of military service. Though rigid in his views he has a warm, sensitive side and is a deeply loving and devoted father.

[LIEUTENANT JOHN STOKES]
Male, 50 to Mid 60s, African American. A tough, no-nonsense career police officer who is used to having people listen when he talks. He has paid his dues. He knows the rules and has no hesitation enforcing them.

Story line: Kendra, a black woman and a professor of psychology, and her estranged husband Scott, a white FBI agent, come to a Miami police station at 4 a.m. because their 18-year-old-son, Jamal, is missing. All the rookie cop on duty will tell them is that Jamal has been “identified in an incident.” Hot off of its Broadway run, this highly charged drama takes a brave look at race, gender, power, and the dangerous dynamics at play when a young African-American man intersects with law enforcement.
