Director Wanted for concert of Ragtime
Village Light Opera Group
New York, NY 10014
Village Light Opera Group (VLOG), a renowned NYC community theater group for over 80 years, is searching for a director for their winter concert production of Ragtime. Performances will take place January 31st and February 1st 2020, at St Paul and St Andrew United Methodist Church (86th and West End). Auditions will take place the evenings of November 11th, 12th and 13th, with callbacks scheduled for the evening of the 15th, and the afternoon of Saturday the 16th. Rehearsals will beheld at various studios in Midtown, typically 2-3 times a week on weekday evenings, with occasional weekends. This position receives a modest stipend.
We are particularly interested in hearing from people of color, and female-identifying individuals, but are open to receiving resumes from candidates of all backgrounds.
Please note that this is a concert performance, with limited rehearsal time. It will be performed acoustically (without microphones), and accompanied by a solo pianist. There will be limited blocking, very limited lighting, and the cast will generally be holding their scores, or placing them on music stands.
The directing candidate should have experience in: • Directing (or music directing) musicals • Working with community or educational theater • Working with large ensembles The candidates should be available early November through February 1st for auditions, rehearsals, and performances.
Important: the following MUST be included in your email reply:
1) Are you available for auditions in early November?
2) Please list any conflicts you have from early November through February 1
3) If you do not have any conflicts, please note that in your email.
4) Are you available for an interview either the evening of Friday November 1st, or Saturday November 2nd?
