Alphabet City, Volume 14 – Submission Request for Writer/Performers /
New York, NY
Director: Sidney Fortner
Interviews begin November 1, 2019.
Performances begin June 2, 2020.
Equity’s contracts prohibit discrimination. Equity is committed to diversity and encourages all its employers to engage in a policy of equal employment opportunity designed to promote a positive model of inclusion. As such, Equity encourages performers of all ethnicities, gender identities, and ages, as well as performers with disabilities, to submit.
Obie Award-winning Metropolitan Playhouse is casting four Equity actors who have writing skills and are interested in developing and performing solo work. This is the 14th installment of this performance series and will be presented as part of Metropolitan’s East Side Stories festival, which will run from June 2nd through the 14th. All ages, genders, types and ethnicities are encouraged to apply.
Performances will be based on interviews conducted with residents of the East Village/Lower East Side. Performers will seek a resident in this neighborhood whose life story will be a subject of his or her performance. (Metropolitan will assist with resident selection if desired.) Performers will then interview the resident and, using his or her own words, create and perform a twenty minute monologue. Performers will work with a director to edit and shape the interview(s) into the performance, but must also work well independently.
