Manhattan Theatre Club (MTC), a Tony Award-winning nonprofit theatre dedicated to the production of contemporary plays and musicals, seeks a full time Education Manager, Community Engagement. For nearly fifty years, MTC has been the creative and artistic home for America’s most gifted theatrical artists, producing works of the highest quality by American and international playwrights. We are strongly committed to producing work that is made by, and tells the stories of, a wide range of voices from all walks of life and to making that work accessible to all audiences including those that have historically lacked access to the arts and cultural sector. MTC produces eight plays annually in Broadway’s restored Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on West 47th Street and off Broadway at the historic NY City Center complex on West 55th Street.
Reporting to the Director of Education, the Education Manager, Community Engagement supports MTC Education’s efforts to promote MTC, the work on its stages, and its educational programs to high school students and early career professionals. The Education Manager serves as an ambassador for MTC Education, cultivating and stewarding relationships with community members and partners from many different backgrounds across all five boroughs and regionally.
Coordinate and oversee recruitment, program development, day-to-day operations, and alumni affairs for the Paul A. Kaplan Theatre Management Program (internship program)
Share coordination with Human Resources of intern hiring and onboarding
Forge new relationships and strengthen existing ones with a diverse array of community partners
Serve as a member of MTC’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee
Administer and oversee participant recruitment, planning, and event logistics for the Family Matinee program
Help coordinate the Beyond the Stage audience engagement initiative
Administer and oversee Patron/Subscriber Workshops
With the Assistant Director of Education, oversee the TheatreLink distance learning program and supervise of the department’s intern
Work with other MTC departments to heighten the profile of MTC’s productions in the metropolitan area
A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in the arts and cultural sector or youth development is required. Candidates must be excellent communicators and experienced with engaging diverse communities. Must be capable of thinking creatively while managing numerous critical details. Excellent skills as both a collaborator and a colleague capable of handling self-directed, independent managerial responsibilities are essential. A high comfort level with Microsoft Office suite, online communications, and general “tech savviness” are important, although extensive technical expertise is not required. Experience with the Tessitura data management program and/or WordFly is a plus. Some travel and evenings and weekends will be required.
This is a full time, salaried position with full benefits package including: group health insurance with options for spousal, family and/or domestic partner coverage, voluntary dental coverage, basic life and long term disability insurance, paid time off and optional 401(K), complimentary tickets to MTC productions, and flex savings plans for healthcare, dependant care and commuting expenses.
