Co-Director/Stage Manager Watching Paint Dry at the Bootleg Theater
Los Angeles, CA 90057
We are currently hiring a co-director who would be willing to take on stage manager duties during tech and performances for our production of Watching Paint Dry at the Bootleg Theater.
Watching Paint Dry is a new play by Joey Povinelli about Eloise Esteban, a world renowned painter with a debilitating illness that never allows her to leave the confinees of her home. She is content in this existence as she is cared for by her mentor and captor, Dr. Thomas. But recent events cause her to question the nature of her existence…Featuring stylized dialogue that walks a tightrope between satire and tragedy along with characters that are simultaneously heightened and heartfelt. In short, this is a story about a painter, and her relationship with her mentor. It’s about surveillance, the art world, and mental health.
We’d love someone with experience directing and stage managing for theatre, with an interest in new and independent work, and someone who takes an interest in our story and wants to have a creative role in bringing it to life. Rehearsals will begin in early September, about three times a week until tech and dress rehearsals, for our two show run, October 4th and 5th. The show should run about one hour. There will be periodic meetings before rehearsals begin.
This production will be more on the non-traditional end – it will be happening in the loft space in the Bootleg Theatre. If you have an interest in experimental theatre, found spaces, immersive theatre, this could be a great match.
