Founded in 1988 by Artistic Director Michael Tilson Thomas, the New World Symphony is a thriving, internationally recognized educational organization whose mission is to prepare young performers for musical leadership in the 21st century. The NWS owns and operates the Frank Gehry-designed campus- New World Center (NWC) and residence facilities for its musician/fellows. 

The Production Technician (Lighting Specialist) serves as a member of the production team responsible for all stage-related matters associated with the NWS program, and all logistical matters pertaining to activities held at NWC, elsewhere in the Miami area, and on tour; manages rental-related activities in NWC; as directed serves as house lighting engineer and assists in daily maintenance and operation of lighting equipment.

Bachelor’s degree or higher in technical theater preferred; minimum 3 years of theatrical experience, at a music school, orchestra, or other performing arts organization; experience with latest-technology lighting equipment (GrandMA2, Varilite VL-1100 moving lights); working knowledge of three-phase power distribution; good written and oral communication skills; working familiarity with classical orchestral and chamber music; a valid drivers’ license; ability to drive a manually operated truck with a lift gate.
