The Properties Master of City Center is a full-time seasonal, non-exempt position defined under the New York City Center I.A.T.S.E Local One collective bargaining agreement. The Properties Master handles all I.A.T.S.E Local One jurisdiction for the Properties department at New York City Center. The Properties Master hires and supervises all other Prop Crew working on the house crew under the New York City Center Main Stage I.A.T.S.E Local One collective bargaining agreement. The Properties Master reports to the Director of Production and the Associate Production Manager of City Center.

Responsibilities will include:  

Ø  Collaborate with the Head Carpenter and Head Electrician to coordinate all properties department work on a production.

Ø  Interface with touring properties technicians and designers to oversee and coordinate properties work on touring productions that play on our mainstage.

Ø  Effectively lead, manage, hire, and schedule the Assistant Properties Head and Properties Crew Members for load in, rehearsals, performances, maintenance, and load out of all productions, as well as house properties maintenance.

Ø  Ensure occupational health and safety of the Properties Department crew members and lead by example with the implementation of best practices to prevent injuries.

Ø  Plan and implement required properties construction projects determined by City Center Management.

Ø  Conduct inventory and maintenance of all stage properties, tape, seating parts, carpet, chairs, music stands, and marley flooring.

Ø  Oversee the operations and maintenance of the Properties shop, tools, and materials. Qualified Applicants will possess:

Ø  5+ years prior experience in a Head or Production Props position in dance, theater, opera, and/or corporate theater – previous touring experience a plus but not required

Ø  Knowledge of the New York City area properties labor pool, and NYC equipment/rental vendors Ø  Knowledge of stage and properties construction methods and occupational health and safety best practices

Ø  Proficient skill with both Windows and Mac Operating Systems, as well as Excel, Outlook, FileMaker Pro, and Vectorworks software Ø  Properties construction artisan, craft skills Ø  Ability to read and interpret scenic drawings

Ø  Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stay on your feet most of the work day

Ø  Excellent communication and organizational skills

Ø  Ability to lead a team and collaborate with other leaders

Ø  Ability to use discretion, make smart decisions effectively, and delegate appropriately
