DESCRIPTION

Entering its 16th season, the Summer Theatre of New Canaan (STONC) is a professional, award-winning Summer Theatre located in New Canaan, CT about an hour commute from NYC. STONC offers a professional internship program for career track theatre arts college students and recent graduates who would like practical experience in their field of interest. All interns will work side by side with professionals and will actively participate in delivering a successful theatrical season. Our season is performed outdoors under our state-of-the-art all-weather Tent Theatre. The 2019 season will be performed in the round and will include a mainstage production of Pippin and two TYA productions, including The Light Princess, and the world premiere of Bros do Pros’ two-person adaptation of Treasure Island. STONC has a quality Education Program that includes its 15-20 paid College Internships, its Jr. Company (5th-8th grade), High School Theatre Acting Intensive Program and the DramaRamas Program; which give children with disabilities an opportunity to perform.

We will select 3 administrative interns. Admin interns split their time between their concentrations: marketing, social media, company management, box office, and house management duties. Each intern will learn how to run and manage a box office and front of house team. After working closely with our Company Manager, Eduaction Programs Director and Executive Producer, the Admin interns will leave with an understanding of how a not-for-profit theatre operates.

All interns generally spend about 75% of their time in their chosen career track and will participate in other tracks as opportunities, interests, and schedules dictate. The program begins on/about May 22 through August 3rd. Some acting, design or stagecraft interns may be asked to start a week later on or about May 30th. Interns typically are engaged 6 days per week. Daily schedules will fluctuate with assignments. All interns will receive a $1800 personal expense stipend for the season in weekly installments.

Regarding Housing:  Housing is quite limited. Admission preference is given to local applicants with their own mode of transportation who reside within a reasonable commuting distance (under 1 hour). However, some housing assistance can be arranged on a case by case basis.

DURATION
