Aspen Music Festival & School (Aspen Opera Center) – Scenic Carpenter
The Scenic Carpenter works under the supervision of the Master Carpenter of the Aspen Opera Center and assists in the building and maintenance of scenic elements based on each production’s specific needs for a two-production summer opera season. Responsibilities include constructing projects as assigned, reading and interpreting shop drawings, participation in the load-in and strike of productions, maintenance of shop equipment and tools, and planning construction projects to utilize space, time, materials and tools in an efficient manner.
Qualifications: Currently pursuing or graduated with a BA/BFA in Technical Theater with a concentration in scenic construction or technical direction, required. Previous experience in the scenic construction support of theatrical productions, required. A strong working knowledge welding and rigging is considered advantageous but not required for the position. Candidates must have sensitivity to the needs of staff, designers, guest artists, faculty, and student performers and a proven ability to work well with others. Candidates also must be independently motivated, possess a sense of humor, be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and climb stairs and ladders comfortably. Additionally, candidates must have a valid driver’s license for the summer of 2018. A DMV check will be conducted for the candidate hired.
Duration: June 10 – August 21, 2019
Compensation: Hourly wage plus seasonal housing
