Roundabout Theatre Company—one of the nation’s leading not-for-profit cultural institutions—is seeking an experienced Facilities Manager.

The Facilities Manager’s main responsibility is the continual upkeep and improvement of all Roundabout Theatre Company (RTC) facilities and equipment, constantly monitoring and maintaining the facilities in terms of planning, budgeting, maintenance, improvements, safety, compliance with federal, state and local law, and staff, audience and artist accessibility and comfort.



Capital Projects:

·         Develop, monitor and implement capital projects and maintenance programs for all RTC facilities

·         Serve as Project Manager on all capital projects

·         Coordinate and oversee contractors during planning and implementing of capital projects, in conjunction with the Chief Administrative Officer

·         Oversee maintaining approved budgets for projects


Theatre Maintenance:

·         Implement a maintenance plan of all systems for all locations

·         Prepare and oversee theatre maintenance annual departmental operating budgets

·         Interface with the house managers and landlords to maintain and implement lease terms

·         Supervise maintenance and cleaning staff, in conjunction with house managers

·         Monitor, maintain and ensure building security needs

·         All systems must be monitored and regularly maintained to ensure proper operation and the security of the staff, artists and audience at all RTC theatres

·         Interface with outside service companies

·         Review and monitor relationships with building vendors and service contractors on annual maintenance agreements and building repairs

·         Conduct preventative maintenance of mechanical equipment and infrastructure


Risk Management Planning:

·         Implement risk management programs such as evacuation plans, fire drills, etc.

·         Respond to emergency conditions such as floods, leaks, fires, etc., in conjunction with the General Managers and House Managers


Landlord Relations:

·         Interface with the theatres and building landlords regarding building issues and complying with lease requirements


Safety and Accessibility:

·         Ensure compliance with building department and fire department codes

·         Conduct annual tests of fire alarm and fire protection systems, sprinkler systems, and HVAC systems

·         Maintain current operations permits and compliance at each venue

·         Ensure ADA compliance and actively promote Roundabout’s commitment to providing accessibility to all of our spaces



·         Oversee theatre maintenance annual operating budgets.

·         Develop, monitor and maintain maintenance and capital budgets.


Staff Management:

·         Supervise house managers at each theatre

·         Manage maintenance staff and outside contractors and workers

·         Establish and maintain communications with other departments to determine facilities and operational needs

·         Develop staffing plans to accommodate the requirements of the facilities with consideration of the organization financial restrictions


Long Range Planning:

·         Develop, monitor and implement functional facility management systems for buildings

·         Establish and maintain communications with other departments to determine facilities and operational needs

·         Develop and maintain an ongoing list of capital projects prioritized by impact necessity

·         Work closely with contractors and architects to plan improvements and changes to the facilities

·         Develop, monitor and maintain annual operations, maintenance and capital budgets



•      A degree in mechanical or civil engineering, architecture, facilities management, OR an equivalent combination of work experience and qualifications in facilities management. Emphasis must be management/technical based. Must be knowledgeable in HVAC topics

•      Minimum of 5 years industry experience is required. Strong organizational and management skills required.

•      Professional engineer’s license, or Architectural license, and/or facilities management certification desirable. Computer proficiency required

•      Excellent communication and presentation skills required

•      Must be able to travel between multiple, geographically distant facilities.
