Quincy Community Theatre (QCT) in Quincy, IL seeks a music director (vocal director/conductor) for its 2019 production, Yeston & Kopit’s Phantom. The contract would cover the time beginning January 22, 2019 and will conclude no later than March 31, 2019. Exact rehearsal dates are negotiable and will be mutually agreed upon with the Artistic Director.
QCT will pay a contracted salary commensurate with experience and dates available (not to exceed $3000), in addition to a travel stipend. Housing will be provided by QCT.
The Music Director agrees to work with Artistic Director Brandon Thomsen to set the musical vision of the show. As a part of that vision, the Music Director will be responsible for recommending the number of musicians. (An orchestra liaison shall be consulted for the hiring of musicians, working within the allotted budget.) The Music Director is required to be at production meetings and rehearsals agreed upon with the Artistic Director. The Music Director will lead vocal rehearsals with the actors, teaching them the music and offering coaching and technique, and will rehearse the musicians prior to the “Sitzprobe” rehearsal. Rehearsals are typically held at QCT Monday through Friday, between 6pm and 10pm, with the occasional daytime and weekend rehearsal.
As a Guest Artist, the Music Director will work alongside a professional staff and local volunteers in harmony with QCT’s mission statement: to offer and perpetuate quality theatre entertainment and education in the performing arts through community participation. Quincy is a city along the Mississippi River with a population of 40,000. There is a strong support for the arts. Quincy Community Theatre has its own facility in the Oakley-Lindsay Center, with a house size of 498.
